About Me
Some would say that we play games to escape our own reality. I believe, however, that we play games to escape our own limitations.
Games are more than just distractions or ways to pass time. They offer us unique experiences to explore, learn, challenge, and interact. They enable us to break or modify the physical laws we live by, create narratives that mold a new identity for the player, and breach into emergent, contemporary spaces that enable new social interactions.
I have worked as a Senior Designer on the Skylanders franchise and a Programmer on the Guitar Hero franchise. My formal background is in Computer Science with an adjunct major in Art, but my focus in the industry has shifted much to Design. My responsibilities have been enjoyably diverse:
- Collaborating with VFX, SFX, Art, Programming, Modeling, and Animation teams for feature requests, content creation, and asset memory management
- Prototyping, designing, and tuning playable characters and enemies
- Scripting interactive UI elements, menus, and menu flows
- Researching and implementing various game mechanics, metagames, minigames, and general player interactables
- Providing strong mentoring and general scripting support for company-wide needs
Working in the industry is not without the occasional creative dissonance between parties, and often higher level goals make way to more practical and resource-conscious decisions. However, I never forget that the end goal is always the same - to create a great game that is fun, inspiring, and creative.
